Ballot Proposition Endorsements

Prop 19 - Neutral: Legalizes and Taxes Cannabis

Allows possession of up to 1 oz of cannabis to be consumed at home or in licensed establishments. Would regulate and tax cannabis similar to alcohol. Might raise in excess of $1 billion in revenue from taxation.

Prop 20 - No: Removes Redistricting Control of Congressional Districts

Removes elected representatives from the process of establishing congressional districts. And hands that role to an unaccountable commission. Could shift congressional seats from one party to another. Reduces voter control over the process. Vote for Proposition 27 instead.

Prop 21 - Yes: Saves State Parks

Our state parks are critical to the economy and quality of life of Monterey County, but they have been facing crippling budget cuts in recent years. This proposal will not only fully fund state parks, it will also improve the parks, and best of all, will enable Californians to access any state park or state beach for free (www.yesforstateparks.com).

Prop 22 - No: Raids Local Funds

Forces an immediate transfer of over $1 billion from public schools to county redevelopment agencies at a time when schools have already been hit hard by cuts. This is ballot box budgeting at its worst. There are far better ways to protect local government funds than by pitting public services against each other like this (www.votenoprop22.com).

Prop 23 - No: Favors Dirty Energy Over Green Jobs

Two Texas oil companies, Valero and Tesoro, have spent millions of dollars to put this proposition on the ballot. It sabotages our efforts to address climate change and undermines California’s growing green jobs economy (www.stopdirtyenergyprop.com or www.Factson23.com).

Prop 24 - Yes: Closes Corporate Tax Loopholes

Eliminate billions in corporate tax loopholes, reducing the size of the budget deficit and providing more money for schools, health care, and other priority services (www.yesprop24.org).

Prop 25 - Yes: Majority Vote Budget Initiative

Restores majority rule to our budgeting process and breaks the gridlock in Sacramento and brings California in line with most other states. Our schools, police and firefighters depend on and deserve timely, balanced budgets (www.endbudgetgridlock.com).

Prop 26 - No: Adds to the Gridlock in Sacramento

Requires a 2/3 vote of the legislature to approve any new fee. This proposal is backed by some of California’s largest corporations, including known polluters, who don’t want to pay to clean up after themselves. Don’t let them make California’s government even more broken and gridlocked than it already is (www.stoppolluterprotection.org).

Prop 27 - Yes: Redistricting Commission

Eliminates the unelected and unaccountable commission that is charged with drawing district lines based on 2010 census information and enables the state to craft a more reasonable method of drawing legislative districts.
