Fox News to be Named Bush Press Secretary
The Administration has floated the name of Tony Snow, Fox News Anchor, for the position of Press Secretary (now that Scott McClellan has stepped down, err, been kicked out the door). While there is nothing wrong with naming a journalist to the post, after all, many press secretaries come from a background in journalism, the naming of Snow would create a strange kind of solipsism. Fox already largely serves as Bush's press secretary: highlighting information favorable to the president, minimizing information that is not. So what would happen when Snow fielded a question from a Fox correspondent, Carl Cameron, say? Would Snow and Cameron meld into a monolith? Would Snow become hypnotized by looking into his own eyes? Isn't there some sort of mythological danger here, about staring too long at your own reflection?
