Rally with the North Central Coast Budget Coalition: The state budget is over six weeks late this year, and public services are starting to feel the pinch. Why is the budget so late? Because Republicans use the fact that California requires 2/3 of the legislature to vote for a budget to hijack the process, demanding destructive budget cuts that will hurt the most vulnerable Californians, including students, the elderly, and the sick. Senator Jeff Denham is one of these Republicans who is holding out, refusing to agree to a fair compromise Democrats have offered that includes a mixture of cuts and new revenues to balance the budget for the next few years.
