Kathy MacKenzie
With so many wonderful communities to choose from in Monterey County, Kathy MacKenzie spent the first 20 years of her 30-year residence in the county trying on different homes from the South Coast of Big Sur, to various towns on the Peninsula, to Salinas, and Carmel Valley before finally settling in with her son, Daniel, in North Monterey County where they have lived for the past 10 years.
She has a Master's Degree in Social Science , with concentration in Cultural Anthropology, Sociology and Research Methodology, from San Jose State University. Kathy has been employed as a social researcher and social impact consultant for business, governmental and educational organizations including the Institute for the Future, the Army Corps of Engineers, UC San Francisco, San Jose State University, and the National Science Foundation.
Since 1995, she has been a Project Manager and Senior Research Associate with the Institute for Scientific Analysis in San Francisco, managing three National Institutes of Health funded projects and co-authoring a number of journal articles that address the socio-cultural conditions of youth and youth gangs.
She is a board member of the Monterey County American Civil Liberties Union, a representative on the Reproductive Rights Coalition, and member of the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom. During the 2004 Presidential campaign, she organized and hosted a weekly film series and discussion group at the Democratic Headquarters in Monterey. She is a member of the Monterey County Democratic Central Committee, representing District 2, and a delegate to the California State Central Committee for the 2005-2006 term. She is also a member of the 27th Assembly District and is Vice President of the Democratic Club of the Monterey Peninsula.
